Website editor data

Values, labels, titles, and settings you enter directly into a website chart tool remain in your browser. Calculation, rendering, and PNG export happen on your device. We do not upload this editor data or your subsequent changes to our server.

ChatGPT chart integration

When you request a chart through our ChatGPT integration, ChatGPT sends the supplied dataset, title, labels, colours, and settings to our chart server. The server validates the data, renders a PNG, and temporarily stores the data and image so you can download the chart and open it in the website editor. The initial retention period is 24 hours; each tool response states its exact expiry. Expired charts become inaccessible at expiry, and automatic cleanup removes their files, normally within one minute while the service is running or on its next restart. There are no accounts or payments.

Anyone possessing an edit, preview, or download link can access its chart until expiry. Treat these links as private and avoid supplying sensitive data. Opening an edit link retrieves the server copy once; further editing and PNG export happen in your browser and are not saved back to the server. Your browser may retain the chart access token in session storage to support refreshing the edit page; it is removed when that browser tab's session ends. Downloaded images and copies retained in ChatGPT or by recipients are not removed by server expiry. ChatGPT handles the conversation under its own privacy policy.

Basic server logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard technical logs needed to deliver and secure the site. These can include an IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp, and diagnostic information. Retention and handling depend on the hosting provider used for the production deployment.

Optional analytics

We may enable lightweight analytics to understand page visits and broad actions such as loading an example or exporting a chart. Visits from ChatGPT use source and campaign markers, and successful chart restoration records the chart type and source. Analytics events do not include datasets, values, labels, titles, or chart access tokens. Access tokens are removed from the edit page URL before analytics loads. Our chart service does not log raw datasets or secrets. If analytics is enabled, the provider may use cookies or similar technologies according to its own policy.

Optional audience question

After starting a PNG or SVG download, we may ask whether you use ChartMaker for work, education, or personal projects. Answering is optional; Skip, close, and Escape dismiss the question. Your browser stores a small local record of the offer, answer, or dismissal so we do not keep asking. If analytics is enabled and you have not opted out, choosing an answer sends only that broad category, chart tool type, and image format through our existing analytics. No email, chart content, filename, or saved project identifier is collected. Clearing site storage allows the question to appear again; if storage is blocked, we can remember your choice only while the page remains open.

Advertising and third parties

Advertising is not enabled in the initial release. If ads or other third-party services are added later, this policy will be updated before those services are activated.

Charts saved on this device

My Charts and recovery drafts use IndexedDB in your browser. Saved charts include the editable data and settings you choose to keep. Ordinary tool edits create a recovery draft after a short pause. ChatGPT editor charts are not saved automatically; saving a local copy is an explicit action. Project files and downloaded chart images are created on your device. No account, remote backup, or cloud synchronization is provided. Browser data deletion, private browsing, or storage restrictions can remove or prevent local saves. Download project files for a portable backup.

Locally saved ChatGPT chart copies and downloaded files remain after the temporary server chart expires. Local projects never contain its access token or service URL.

Your choices

Delete named charts in My Charts and discard recovery drafts in the corresponding tool. Clear Data clears the current editor, not separately named charts. Closing the page does not delete local saves. Clearing this site's browser storage removes its local charts and drafts but does not delete a temporary ChatGPT server copy, which expires automatically. Analytics can be disabled in the browser console with window.chartmakerAnalytics.disable(); browser privacy controls can also restrict tracking. There are no account profiles.
