How to make a radar chart
- Enter at least three metrics. Put metric names in the first column and each subject in a separate numerical column.
- Keep data complete. Every subject needs a non-negative value for every metric on the chart.
- Choose one scale. Use a maximum that covers all values, or leave the field blank for automatic scaling.
- Review and export. Confirm exact values in the table, then download a PNG or SVG.
What is a radar chart?
A radar chart places several numerical metrics on axes that radiate from one center. Values are plotted at proportional distances along those axes and connected into a profile. Overlaying profiles helps reveal where subjects have similar shapes and where their relative strengths differ.
Radar, spider, and web charts
Radar chart, spider chart, spider graph, and web chart are common names for this same chart family. The spoke-and-polygon structure resembles a web, while multiple overlaid profiles can be compared like signals on a radar display.
Comparing several dimensions
Radar charts are useful when every subject is assessed across the same compact set of dimensions—for example, product criteria, team capabilities, survey scores, or performance measures. A larger radius indicates a higher value on that metric, while the overall polygon shape highlights relative balance.
Compare values along the same spoke before comparing polygon area. Area changes across several axes at once and is harder to interpret precisely than the underlying values.
Using a consistent numeric scale
Every spoke shares the same zero-to-maximum scale. The custom maximum must cover the largest observation; otherwise the chart would clip or exaggerate values. Automatic mode rounds the observed maximum to a readable upper boundary. Do not mix metrics whose numerical direction or range has not been normalized appropriately.
